STM8S001J3 is a low-cost 8-bit microcontroller featuring a 16 MHz STM8 core with 8 KB Flash, 1 KB RAM, and 128-byte EEPROM. Integrated peripherals include 10-bit ADC, three timers, UART, SPI, I2C, and up to 5 I/O pins. Operates from 2.95V to 5.5V with multiple low-power modes and clock sources.

Why does this need a breakout?
The 1.27mm pitch and surface-mount pads on this eight-pin package are difficult to hand-solder reliably and incompatible with standard breadboards. A breakout board lets you prototype with through-hole connectors and larger pads, dramatically reducing assembly frustration while maintaining electrical integrity for sensitive analog and switching applications.
